Pattern Shop Programmer

OVERVIEW:
The CNC Programmer supports the manufacturing and tooling operations by developing, validating, and maintaining precise five-axis CNC machining programs using Mastercam and Vericut. This role ensures tooling and pattern equipment meet engineering and foundry specifications while upholding the company's quality, safety, and production standards. The position serves as a critical link between design engineering and manufacturing, driving process accuracy, efficiency, and continuous improvement within the pattern shop.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Program and support five-axis CNC router operations using Mastercam
- Set up CNC equipment, including work references, tool offsets, axis calibration, and program edits
- Utilize Vericut program simulation to validate programs prior to machining
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, including metric-to-standard conversions and GD&T
- Inspect pattern equipment to engineering drawings and foundry dimensioning standards
- Maintain organized program libraries, simulation files, and revision control
- Collaborate with pattern designers, machinists, and foundry engineers to ensure accuracy and readiness of tooling
- Participate in cross-training initiatives to support succession planning and operational continuity.
- Actively recommend and implement process improvements
- Follow all safety procedures and promote safety as #1 priority
- Adhere to company policies regarding attendance, punctuality, and conduct
- Support plant departmental goals, maintain good housekeeping, and ensure quality products for internal and external customers
- Monitor equipment condition and report maintenance needs promptly
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
- Associate's degree in engineering, manufacturing technology, or related field required; Bachelor's degree preferred
- Equivalent experience with demonstrated five-axis CNC programming proficiency may be considered
Experience
Required:
- Five years of CNC programming experience or equivalent
- Proficiency with Mastercam for five-axis programming
- Experience with Vericut simulation
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Project)
- Understanding of GD&T
- Strong mathematical, blueprint reading, and CNC knowledge
- Good communication, organization, and teamwork skills
- Strong reliability and commitment to attendance
Preferred:
- Experience with SolidWorks or equivalent CAD.
- Experience customizing CAM post-processors.
- Familiarity with patternmaking, foundry tooling, or urethane molds.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., bend, stoop, twist, climb, pull, and stretch
- Must be able to wear a respirator and other required PPE
- Ability to work in a pattern shop/foundry environment with exposure to dust, noise, and temperature variations
